Game, Set, Match: Saha Qualifies for the Davis Cup!
We are thrilled to celebrate a monumental sporting achievement: King’s School Rochester pupil Saha (Lower Sixth) has officially qualified to play in the upcoming Davis Cup!
Saha earned his spot through a grueling trial process, winning 11 out of 13 intense matches. His impressive run included defeating the under-18 number-one ranked player, as well as an experienced 22-year-old international competitor from Australia.
Heading to the International Stage
The tournament kicks off on 20 July in Sri Lanka, where Saha will face formidable teams from the Philippines, Qatar, Nepal, and Pacific Oceania. Returning to Sri Lanka is particularly special for Saha, who fondly remembers touring his home country last summer with the King's First XI cricket team.
Balancing Court and Classroom
Saha, who joined King's in Remove (Year 9), has spent the last six months competing on the junior circuit across Ghana, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. Managing elite-level tennis alongside his education has been made possible through the school's dedicated support.
'King’s as a school has supported me a lot,' says Saha. '
They’ve given me a bespoke timetable and I’m very appreciative of it.'
Please join us in wishing Saha the absolute best of luck as he prepares for this incredible international milestone on 20 July!
Cloudy with a Chance of Cosmic Rays
Lower Sixth unveiled a hand-built cloud chamber to demonstrate to the incoming Lower Sixth cohort. Utilising a technical guide directly from CERN, pupils successfully constructed a working chamber alongside a research presentation detailing its history and scientific significance. This incredible piece of apparatus allowed viewers to witness the decay of cosmic rays, quantum particles and radioactive particles, which left behind ionised tracks like vapour trails. Held in our state-of-the-art new laboratories, this project perfectly highlighted the School’s focus on STEM, beautifully combining advanced scientific theory with brilliant hands-on engineering and peer-to-peer inspiration.
Battle of the Houses - Sports Day Showdown!
Over two days of fierce competition, the Alps became the arena for the annual Sports Day battle. Wednesday saw the Junior School (Years 4–8) take to the field, followed on Thursday by the Senior School. Draped in their House colours and adorned with vibrant face paint, Crick, Whiston, Parker and Storrs threw themselves into every athletic event on the track and in the field including inflatable fun and the traditional tug of war.
Every sprint was a masterclass in speed, every throw a display of sheer power and every leap a defiance of gravity as the rival factions pushed themselves to the limit for every single point. When the dust finally settled over the Alps, Crick had dominated and stood victorious amid the roar of the crowds, hoisting the Junior School trophy AND the Senior School trophy! And a huge thank you to the KPS for rewarding every participant with a refreshing ice lolly!
Staff Reign Supreme!
Despite a morning of light showers, the annual croquet tournament between the Principal’s Staff Team, the Heads of School and the King’s Scholars went ahead undampened as players assembled in the regal surroundings of Oriel Garden. This also marked Mr Fisher’s first opportunity to defend the unbroken Headmasters’ winning record against the pupils, a record we claim has stood since Henry VIII himself brought his croquet mallet to Rochester. Both pupils and staff very much enjoyed their time together, navigating the sloping lawn of Oriel House, accompanied with luncheon at half-time. Sadly, despite a valiant effort on the part of the Scholars and Senior Prefects, the Principal's team was once again victorious, the scoreline ending at 22 points to the staff and 18 to the pupils. The unbroken streak remains and sets the challenge for next year's Upper Sixth!
Bridges, Caves and Coasters
Year 8 headed to the Peak District last week for a packed week of outdoor adventure. Pupils camped out and spent the week exploring the great outdoors hiking, caving, swimming and abseiling off a huge bridge. With lots of games on the camp field and an adrenaline filled trip to Alton Towers pupils returned happy and exhausted with wonderful memories to round up their time in Junior School.
