Chigwell Pupil Selected to Represent the UK at International Space Competition

Chigwell School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Lower Sixth pupil Lawin, who has been selected to represent the United Kingdom at the International Space Settlement Design Competition, taking place at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida this July.


This prestigious opportunity follows her exceptional performance at the UK Space Design Competition National Finals, held at Imperial College London.

There, Lawin was part of a Gold award-winning team alongside fellow Chigwell pupils Raima and Dexter.

The competition is designed to reflect the real-world demands of the aerospace industry, challenging students to collaborate under intense time pressure to develop a comprehensive response to a complex space settlement brief.

Participants are required to draw on a wide range of disciplines - including engineering, physics, computer-aided design, business planning and presentation skills - before presenting their proposals to a panel of expert judges.

Lawin’s team designed an advanced lunar farming settlement within Shackleton Crater, near the Moon’s south pole. Their ambitious proposal tackled the challenges of sustainable food production, structural engineering, resource management and human habitation in one of the most extreme environments imaginable. 

We warmly congratulate Raima and Dexter, as well as Lawin. Achieving a Gold award at this level is a significant accomplishment, reflecting their talent and ability to collaborate effectively in a highly demanding competition.
