School hosts Heritage Open Days events
Highfield and Brookham set to welcome families to its beautiful woodlands as part of National Trust initiative.
A school in Liphook is opening up its wonderful woodland next month as part of a national scheme.
Highfield and Brookham School is hosting two family-friendly events over five days in September as part of the
National Trust’s popular Heritage Open Days initiative.
Heritage Open Days, the country’s biggest free festival of its kind, celebrates heritage, community and history over ten days every September and, according to the organisers, offers people the chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences.
And Highfield and Brookham is delighted to be taking part for the very first time.
The highly-regarded nursery, pre-prep and prep school occupies an enviable 175 acres of grounds on the rural borders of Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex and is excited to give the public the chance to explore its woodland and immerse themselves in their natural surroundings.
Highfield and Brookham is hosting ‘Connecting with Nature’ sessions on Friday 6th September, Saturday 7th September and Wednesday 11th September, from 10am-11am each day, where children aged from two to six will get the chance to get hands on at forest school, which is a popular part of the independent school’s daily curriculum.
And younger children, from the age of 18 months, can embark on a ‘Great Animal Hunt’ on Monday 9th September and Friday 13th September, from 10am-10.45am, where they will listen to a story around the campfire before hunting in the woods for animals which have appeared in the story.
All of the
Heritage Open Days events are free but must be booked.
Suzannah Cryer, Head of Highfield and Brookham, said: “Heritage Open Days is such a wonderful venture, giving people the chance to see and experience things on their doorstep that they were perhaps unaware of.
“We’re incredibly lucky that we have amazing grounds and woodland that our children make full use of each and every day, for learning and play, and it fills us with a sense of pride that we are able to give local families the chance to enjoy these special surroundings too.”
